The attackers stole 116,500 rsETH tokens worth $293 million, using a cross-chain attack and funneling the funds through Tornado Cash to evade detection.
The breach was attributed to a security flaw in LayerZero infrastructure, with KelpDAO and LayerZero blaming each other for the incident.
LayerZero's Decentralized Verifier Networks were compromised by North Korea's Lazarus Group, allowing the unauthorized transfer of rsETH.
Around $71 million of the stolen funds has been frozen by Arbitrum's Security Council.
Experts noted the sophistication of the attack, highlighting the need for improved security measures in the crypto space.
