Mac Users Beware: Malvertising Campaign Weaponizes shared Chats in Google Ads Attack

11 May 2026

Attackers are using Google Ads and legitimate Claude.ai shared chats in a malvertising campaign targeting macOS users.
The scam involves users searching for "Claude mac download" and coming across sponsored search results that lead to malware installation instructions instead.
The malware is downloaded and run on the Mac through a shared Claude chat posing as an official "Claude Code on Mac" installation guide.
The malware collects information and exfiltrates it to the attacker's server, bypassing traditional security measures.
This campaign represents a wider trend of attackers abusing AI platform shared chats to target unsuspecting users.
Users are advised to download the native Claude app directly from claude.ai and be cautious when pasting terminal commands from unfamiliar sources.
Google and Anthropic, the company behind Claude.ai, have been notified of the issue.
