Windows 11 Update Woes: Microsoft Confirms KB5089549 Installation Issues Triggering 0x800f0922 Errors

18 May 2026

Microsoft's May 2026 Windows 11 security update (KB5089549) is failing to install on some systems due to insufficient free space on the EFI System Partition (ESP), triggering 0x800f0922 errors.
The update rolls back automatically on affected devices with 10 MB or less space on the ESP.
Users see error messages like "Something didn't go as planned.
Undoing changes." Microsoft suggests using Known Issue Rollback or Group Policy to mitigate the problem.
The update also includes fixes for other bugs, such as BitLocker recovery issues and driver deployment problems.
