Cybersecurity Jobs Evolving: AI Skills in High Demand as Roles Shift Towards Human-Machine Collaboration

21 August 2026

A new research study by the AI Workforce Consortium, founded by Cisco, reveals that the number of cybersecurity job postings requiring AI skills has doubled year-over-year in G7 countries, making up over a quarter of new roles.
Data from recruitment firms Cornerstone and Indeed shows that 28.5% of cybersecurity job postings between October 2025 and March 2026 now require AI skills, up from 14.2% the previous year.
The study identifies an emerging "agentic skill stack" as a baseline for high-volume cybersecurity roles, indicating a shift towards a combination of human and machine effort.
Rather than rendering technical roles obsolete, AI is transforming them into more human-centric positions, with AI systems handling repetitive tasks while humans focus on strategic decision-making.
Despite these changes, technical roles like security engineers and SOC analysts remain in high demand in the cybersecurity industry.
