Mouse Settings Wiped by Windows 11 Update: Microsoft Issues Fix with KB5124008

Microsoft has fixed a bug that caused mouse settings to be wiped on some Windows 11 systems after installing the KB5120998 August 2026 preview update.
The issue led to mouse cursor personalization settings changing or resetting, with users unable to restore them even after uninstalling the update.
Microsoft confirmed the problem stemmed from code components in non-English Windows installations, causing settings load failures.
The issue was resolved with the KB5124008 September 2026 cumulative update.
Microsoft recommended users update their devices to resolve the problem.
The KB5120998 update is optional but will install automatically if the user has enabled automatic updates.
Microsoft has previously addressed other mouse-related issues on Windows devices.
