EOODFBI Data Breach by ShinyHunters: The Zero-Day Exploit and the Cybersecurity Fallout
23 September 2026The hacking group ShinyHunters claims to have breached the FBI using a zero-day exploit and stolen data on all FBI employees and applicants.
The group did this in retaliation for what they claim to be inaccuracies in an FBI PSA.
They shared a sample of the compromised data with 404 Media, containing personally identifiable information on 5000 FBI employees.
The goal seems to be to force the FBI to amend or take down the PSA.
ShinyHunters also defaced the FBI jobs website.
The group exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft before downloading 2-3TB of data from AWS GovCloud servers.
Users of PeopleSoft should assume compromise and take steps to secure their systems.
They should also be vigilant for suspicious activity and prepare for potential attacks.
